Spring is a great time of the year to fish the larger river in Vermont. What makes it even better is that we able to launch drift boats in them and float sections and get away from the pressure a little bit. Typically from May 20th or so on until the water levels recede in June is the best time to fish with the boats. The two rivers we focus on are the Lamoille and Winooski rivers. These rivers do not have public boat launches on them for anything larger than a canoe so it is the norm to be the only vessel on the river which makes for an even better trip. Both of these rivers contain both wild and stocked Browns and rainbow some of which are over twenty inches. During this time of the year, expect to nymph and streamer fish but don’t be surprised if you do throw a dry. Another awesome part of fishing these rivers during the time frame we do is that you don’t have to get up at first light to catch fish. Most of our half day trips depart between 8am and 10am because the water temps are cool enough that even during the warmest part of the day the water is going to be an optimal temp for trout fishing. These trips are a blast and can be done with both fly gear and conventional gear. We have a two person max per boat due to limited space but have multiple boats!
