Starting every May for the past 14 years The Fly Rod Shop has held it’s extremely popular FREE casting clinics. The free casting clinics run every Wednesday and Saturday through Columbus Day. On Wednesdays, the program runs from 4:00pm-5:30pm and on Saturdays it runs from 9:00am-10:30am. These are limited to ten students only, to make sure we can spend an adequate amount of time with each student. To start off the class we will spend some time in the shop going over gear, flies and hatches. Afterwards, we will go out to the casting pond, go over the parts of a fly rod and reel, then break down the mechanics of casting step by step. We cover both the false cast and roll cast during this lesson. We do run Spey casting clinics, but those are private classes. By the end of the program students will be capable of making booths casts properly and effectively and should also have knowledge on selecting flies, where to find fish and lots of other useful tips. All gear is provided but if students have their own rods we encourage them to learn on their own gear because that’s what they’ll be using when they hit the water! These free clinics are great for people looking to get introduced to the sport of fly fishing, great for friends and family members that won’t listen to you! And also great for people doing trips with us. Give the shop a call and save yourself a spot today!
