We hope everyone has been able to get out on the water lately. We’ve been having some good days, and some slow days over the past week. Water temps have dropped a lot and the fishing has definitely been picking up a bit mid day but regardless of the time of day we’re working for the fish. Water levels are super low right now which has seemed to concentrate fish. With that being said, due to lower water levels the fish have also been pretty darn spooky. After a few hookups, (or bad casts) the fish shut off, then it’s time to move. The rain we’ve gotten, and are currently getting will definitely help things out, but we could use more than what we’re getting!
We’ve been finding a few BWO hatches with some sporadic rising fish but most if the fish we’ve been getting have either been nymphing or swinging soft hackles. If some rivers come up a bit we may run into some good streamer fishing opportunities. The salmon fishing has been decent although those rivers are all low as well which is definitely makes the fish a little more skittish and concentrates the fish in a lot fewer spots than if the water levels were higher.
For those getting out over the next few days the best options will be dictated by the total rainfall we get. It doesn’t look like anything will blow out, in which case we’ll be sticking on the bigger rivers. A push of water should help out a ton to get fish a little more active. It does look like we’ll be seeing some cold temps the next few days, but by the end of the week air temps, and water temps should warm up a bit which should get the fish a bit more active!
