Similar to our past reports. Slow fishing but there are fish to be caught! We’ve had decent reports coming into the shop of anglers hitting some trout on the C&R section of the Winooski river. Fish have been caught on both streamers and nymphs in the slower, deeper pools of the river. Be sure to get your flies deep! The water is still cold and fish will not move more than a couple inches in most situations to eat. Reports of Champlain Steelhead out of some of the tribs are still coming in but judging by the flows chances are a lot of fish may have not come up into the rivers yet with the low water levels. Still definitely fish around you just may have to work for them and cover a bit more water to find them. Lake Champlain should turn on soon first for bass then pike a couple weeks after. Early season bass fishing on Champlain can provide unbelievable action to fly anglers working shallow bays. The pike will be spawning and typically pick up a bit after the bass d0.
