The fishing has continued to improve over the week. Water temps have warmed up a bit more and the fish are taking notice. We’ve hit a few great hendrickson hatches over the past week and found good numbers of fish rising! Haven’t had a good dry fly bite this early in the season in quite a few years! Prior to the hatches we had great success nymphing, both with an indicator and tightline along with swinging smaller streamers on a 5ft sink tip. We’re approaching the time of the year where the fishing will be pretty consistent throughout the entire day. Definitely more of a dry fly opportunity in the afternoons but fish should be relatively active all day long.

The rain we got yesterday seemed to be pretty localized, this evening and tomorrow morning some river may have a bit of color, if they do, I’d imagine by Saturday they’ll be back to normal. It looks like the Lamoille Watershed got way more rain the the Winooski. If you do come across dirtier than normal water, don’t be afraid to tie on a big streamer! As mentioned a million times before, big trout love feeding when the water’s high and dirty!

For those getting out this weekend there’s going to be lots of great options! The Winooski should be good to go, we’ve seen hendricksons, some caddis and fish rising! All of the larger tributaries of the Winooski will also be in good shape. The Lamoille is currently pretty high and dirty, the rain definitely hit north of us harder than it did south of here. The smaller mountain streams should also be in good shape. Plan on bringing a few rods with you, or at least make sure your well stocked with dries, nymphs and streamers. Anything could happen while you’re on the river right now!“
