River Conditions: 5/9/16

Water Clarity: Clear-Stained

Water Temperatures:  Mid-Upper 40’s-Low 50’s

Hatches: Brown/black Stoneflies, Hendricksons, Blue Quill, Quill Gordon, Caddis Flies

Suggested Patterns:  RL Stoneflies, Two Tone Stones, Simple Stones, Smethurts Twenty Bomb, Copper Johns, Pheasant Tails, Black Montana Prince Nymphs, Olive and Natural Hare’s Ears, Bob’s Softy, Wooly Buggers, Muddler Minnows, Drunk Dads, Sparkle Minnows, Kellers Nightmare, VFG Articulate Bunnies

The rain we got yesterday definitely muddied things up a bit on some of the bigger rivers. The Winooski is shot right now, not that high but no visibility whatsoever. The Lamoille river should be in a bit better shape but might still need a day to settle down, haven’t seem it since the rain so it could be ok now. The smaller tribs are all in good shape right now with a little color to them. Water temps are a bit cooler after the rain and the cooler air temps but we should see that change in another day or two as it is supposed to warm up a bit. Streamers may be the best option right now in the higher off colored water but as water levels recede and things clear up and warm up we may be lucky enough to get opportunities at fish even on dry flies! Lots of rivers have been stocked in the past week too so you’ll start seeing more fish around than prior to last week! The stillwater fishing has been quite good as well, bass are still putting the feedbag on but will probably be on their beds by the end of the week. The pike fishing has been pretty good as well, lots of hungry post spawn fish have been caught on several pike trips recently. The fishing should be good over the next 2-3 days so get out there!!!
