The fishing has remained pretty consistent over the past week. The rain we received cooled things off a little and brought the water levels up for a small period of time. That helped with the trout, a cool flush of water is what we needed. Although we could use some more, we’ll take whatever we can get! The brookie streams were in great shape the past few days. Slightly higher flows seemed to get them fired up and quite aggressive. I even got a couple males that were pretty colored up. Fall is right around the corner… The trout fishing on the bigger rivers is still out of the question. However, if you’re into smallmouth bass fishing both the lower Winooski and lower Lamoille would be great options and the bass don’t seem to mind the warmer water temps. Try dead drifting hoppers, twitching poppers, fishing some zonkers, buggers or even dead drift some larger stonefly patterns under a bobber.

If you’re getting out after trout this weekend I would stick to the small streams. Traveling to the Upper CT in the NEK or over into NH would be a great option if you’re trying to fish something a little bit bigger. The water coming out of Murphy dam is typically ice cold this time of the year providing some great trout fishing all day long. Another good place to keep on the radar would be the farmington down in CT. Another tailwater full of hungry fish and cold water.

It’s looking like we’re going to be seeing some thunderstorms roll through over the next four or five days which is great news. Hopefully we’ll actually see some significant rainfall over the next week! Good luck to everyone getting out there.
