Been getting a little rain here and there to help bring up some of the smaller streams a little bit. (emphasis on little) Looks like we may see a little rain tomorrow which would be welcomed with open arms. As far as the fishing goes, very similar to how it has been, mostly fishing smaller mountain streams for brook trout and the bigger rivers for smallmouth. Both the Lamoille and Winooski are still temping on the warmer side but hopefully that will change soon. The Brook trout are starting to color up quite and they seem to be happy and healthy.  A little on the spooky side with the lower flows but still catchable and the temps are still good.

Still seeing flying ants hatching sporadically, we’ll likely continue to see that through the beginning part of September. Lots of Tricos out and I did see some ISOs the other evening while taking a walk. The White Fly hatch should be right around the corner as well which can be a fun hatch to fish for smallmouth bass on the lower reaches of the bigger rivers. The stillwater bass fishing has been quite good lately as well, the smallmouth have been hammering topwater flies early in the am on a few lakes north of the shop, once the fog burns off and the sun hits the water it’s time to switch it up and fish subsurface flies like clousers, buggers, zonkers and other similar baitfish and leech patterns.

The extended forecast right now is looking good, a couple warm days but cooler than it has been, now we just need the rain to show up in full force. Lots of the rivers right now are the lowest they’ve been in a long, long time.

Good luck to anyone getting out over the next few days! Do your rain dance!
