We’ve had a couple of fantastic days of weather! Looks like that may change but at least we got to see a little sunshine! The fishing has been fantastic! We’ve been on the lamoille quite a bit and that’s been pretty productive over the past few days. Lots of fish on dries, nymphs, unweighted soft hackles from our buddy Rich and streamers! Everything has seemed to catch fish. We’ve been covering a good amount of water but finding willing fish in just about every spot that looks like there should be a fish. We’ve also spent some time on lots of the larger tribs, streams like the Gihon, North Branch, Mad and Dog have also been fishing pretty well. A good mix of wild vs stocked fish which is always nice to see going into the fall. We’ve actually been seeing a ton of wild rainbows on the mainstem of the lamoille, not always the case!
The small streams have been fishing really well too, the streams are still high and the fish are super happy and very willing to eat just about any fly that floats over them. It does look like we’ll see some rain over the next two days, the Lamoille may get too high to fish again, all depends on what we get for precip, the Winooski is close to being fishable but that’ll likely come up enough to delay fishing it for another week or so. Could be a good time to bust out the 6 or 7wt and go throw some big streams in hopes of running into some big boys and girls!!
Be sure to get out and fish! The fishing is good, don’t use a little rain as an excuse to stay home!
